| When a fire destroys the restaurant where chef Chris Tucker works, his life goes up in smoke with it. Even the love of his husband, Matt Gallagher, isn't enough to prevent his depression about being unemployed. Matt does his best to help Chris, but Chris keeps shutting him out. They'll both need to trust in their love for each other to keep them together while Chris figures things out.
Opening with the fire that changes everything for Chris is a great way to jump right into the story. His reaction to the closing of the restaurant and subsequent loss of his job is understandable and realistic, but it is heart wrenching to watch him push Matt away. All Matt wants to do is help Chris deal with the changes in his life, but Chris doesn't know how to let him. Their deep love for each other shows in the way both are hurt by the deepening space between them the longer Chris is without work. The fact that no matter how hard things get neither is willing to give up on the other also highlights just how important they are to each other as well as the fact that they belong together. Ally Blue has written a story surrounding two very realistic characters. Both Chris and Matt are easy to relate to and their struggles to hold everything together during a very tough time will grab at readers' hearts. This is a thoroughly enjoyable story with a very satisfying ending.
