| Rebecca Jordan finds that Carter Rawlins both repels and attracts her in a way no one else ever has. At her best friend’s wedding he seems like an egotistical macho man albeit an attractive, sexy one. The next thing she knows he shows up at her job as head of a new project involving a confidential drug study. She’s almost hit by a car and then is suspended from her job. Is he the cause of her misfortune or just a moody, often rude man? Something is going on and the two have no choice but to join forces to find out what it is.
Cierra James does a great job building her storyline so it sounds believable. The fact that she has some healthcare background seems to help make her information about pharmaceutical companies, clinics and a drug study seem realistic. Rebecca and Carter seem driven by their emotions and hormones to build a romance. When it comes to solving a mystery they’re usually smart and careful but a little help from an unusual source comes in handy. In contrast the two villains we know throughout most of the story seem to be more driven by their emotions and aren’t nearly as good as they think they are. The mastermind calling the shots is tricky and vicious. The identity is well hidden until the end and may surprise you. All of these things plus some interesting secondary characters and dialogue make for a well constructed suspense that had an underlying sense of wit amidst the plot twists.
