| Tired of constant questioning by police who seem to assume she killed her best friend, Claire Parker decides to investigate Mitzi's death herself. With the help of a friendly Professor of Creative Writing, Brandon Harvest, she meets people who knew Mitzi. As a whole other side to her friend opens up to her the killer becomes more and more vicious in attempts to frighten her off the case. Will the killer succeed in stopping her before she finds out who it is?
Rhonda Gibson pens a fine suspense story. Except for a tendency to interchange the color of Brandon's eyes with those of Detective Howard, the chief investigator, the book is well crafted. A multitude of characters, many with reasons to dislike or envy Mitzi, are suspects. Claire is one of those bumbling heroines who always seems to be falling, running into someone, or getting her clothes messed up. Basically an everyday kind of person, she gets herself into some situations that most of us have gotten into at one time or another. I'm not always sure whether I should feel sorry for her or empathize with her mishaps. Brandon is one of those kind, generous, talented, gorgeous men who everyone chases. As is often the case, the one he wants isn't sure she wants him. One of the charms of the book is that it seems to be written about common people like our neighbors and friends. They're people who we can relate to in their foibles, moods, and everyday lives. This is a well done whodunit that will probably keep most readers guessing until the villain is revealed.
