I love the first book in Ravyn Wilde's new Vampire Sentinel Series! There was a lot of sex for the overall word count, but it was really good sex. Sometimes it gets to be all the same. I think I must skim over that part in some books because I don't remember at the end what to rate it. Not so with this book! Not only can our heroine and hero not resist each other, but at one point, to save their lives they must spend several days doing nothing else but. And I enjoyed every heart pounding, panty-wetting word! I loved the secondary characters as much as the main ones. Maria's human servants, Matt and Brian, are known to everyone as 'the bookends'. One fair, one dark and both are drop dead gorgeous. They are irreverent for human servants because Maria doesn't control them as blood slaves. They are laugh out loud funny and no one could love Maria more, except Justin, of course. He is the son of the policeman that has worked with Maria to clean up the streets for over forty years now. Since Bill is pushing seventy, he brought Justin, newly retired from the military special operations, to meet Maria. They fell in lust at first sight and by the time they got together they were in love, want it or not. Bill is one, with two doctors, of only three humans trusted enough to know para-normals exist and have a seat on the counsel. Add in Luscious Lucien, the vampire that turned Maria. He was her mentor until the French Aristocracy began spreading vicious rumors about her, then he turned his back and deserted her. He has been tracking the new threat to their fair city all across Europe and has followed it here. He showed up unexpectedly at the counsel meeting and after scanning Justin's mind he realized just how wrong he'd been for the last two hundred years. Factor in Marie Antoinette, vampire, former queen of France beheaded at age thirty-seven, and you have a fighting force to be reckoned with.

Unfortunately, not even Luke knows how to kill this hideous monster that paralyzes its victims, sucks out the life force and then eats the blood, internal organs and bone marrow. It is an Empousai, with partly a woman's body, grotesque with scales, a donkey foot and a brass foot, bat wings, snake hair and a face so terrible the mind blocks it out. It seems impervious to everything except insults about its feet. It prefers an immortal feast but will take humans if they happen to be out alone. It appears to its victims as seductively beautiful and overwhelms their minds so they won't smell its stench. The body count usually becomes very high before it moves on to another area to feed.

I hope the next book is already in the works because I can't wait to read it. LET THEM EAT CAKE has a wonderful plot and story line with just the right mix of action, suspense, mystery, camaraderie, love and, of course, good old fashioned steaming hot sex. You won't be bored reading this one. It is an exciting, entertaining read. Don't miss it.
