Four months after her mother’s passing, Carrie accepts the heartbreaking task of sorting through her mother’s possessions. As she goes through items, she comes across a white envelope inside an old paperback. Curious as to its contents, she opens it to see words written by her mother. At first she hesitates to read the pages, then decides she needs to know what’s inside the pages.

Carrie surprisingly learns her mother was madly in love with a young boy by the name of Alex when she was only eleven. The depth of love she felt for Alex was only ignored by him and it was years later before he really noticed her. Carrie absorbs all the words like a sponge. She learns that her mother and Alex eventually married but it did not last. Her heart always loved Alex but it just was not meant to be. Carrie never knew any of this about her mother. Carrie wonders what influenced her mother to take pen to paper to express Alex.
