| In 11th Century England, Conner Williams makes the ultimate sacrifice. Knowing he would rather suffer living with the knowledge she despised him than to have to live through her death, he attempts to turn his wife's love and devotion into hatred to drive her away. No matter what he tries, he fails in every way. Now 800 years later he has once again been reincarnated and must find a way to bring the end to this cruel and inhuman circle. Connor has found the woman who is his reincarnated wife - a woman named Raine Sinclair. With his new life as Michael Connors, an English barrister, he brings her to his home. His desire is that he can meld memories of her past life and her love for him into her new soul, and he earnestly hopes he did not drive her away forever with the lies he told her in the 11th century.
Working against him are the very souls who tried to destroy him in the 11th century. They have succeeded in preventing his finding his wife for centuries, and this time they have planned to break the cycle of living again altogether. Will Raine accept the story Michael tells her? Can true love transcend time and physical being? Can Michael and Raine survive the treachery of the 11th Century souls and break the cycle to remain together forever? Ms. Bardsley successfully brings a very involved and beautiful story full circle - not an easy task considering it is a short story. Raine is spunky, strong, and beautifully rendered; even when she is her 11th century self she is a force to be reckoned with. Conner (Michael) is a determined man, willing to make up for his past mistakes and take the blame for something for which he is blameless. This was a beautiful, fast and quick story, perfect for anyone wanting a short but very engaging story!
