| In true Cooper McKenzie style, she pays homage to firefighters with three appropriately-titled stories of couples at different stages of their relationships. Burn Me follows an insatiable couple. They have moved past the initial shyness and uncertainty of a new relationship, and they've settled into that comfortable place where they can enjoy one another fully. Whether through the phone or seated across the room from one another, they are scorching hot.
Wildfire looks at a couple who've flirted for a few months as they put the “closed” sign on the diner door and heat up the kitchen. The hot eroticism of that first time making love is definitely out of control. Light My Fire showcases a pair of neighbors who finally act on their mutual attraction. The sweetness and uncertainty of their coming together tugs at the reader's heartstrings. Each story isn't much more than a vignette completely focused on the consummation part of the relationship. While I liked each story, I really missed having more time to spend with each couple to get to know them, to find out what sets them apart from everyone else out there. I wanted to fall in love with them, but the stories were too short to do more than titillate. For a reader looking for a quick shot of love, this is the perfect short read to get things going. My favorite story was the last one, Light My Fire, because McKenzie delved a little deeper into the characters. The seriousness was balanced with humor and wit. It made that story stand out as the best, though they were all pretty good.
