| Harleigh Boston, at age 30, was the only daughter of R.B. and Trish Boston, one of the richest men in South Carolina. When she returned to Hilton Head for her father’s birthday, of course she was late arriving at their home; she met Mitch Brannigan, a very rich friend of the family who had never met Harleigh. He instantly mistook her for a burglar. Their relationship did not start well!
The attraction was instantaneous for both of them, but they did not become a couple at that point. Later, when Harleigh was in Vegas attending a lingerie show, she was hounded by a man named Sam Lightner. Later, when he traced her to her apartment, she lied to him and said that she was engaged to Mitch. After all, who would ever know the truth? No one would be hurt by the lie, but maybe Sam would leave her alone. Then, Jason Lightner, Mitch’s college roommate, contacted Mitch because he wanted to contract with Harleigh to design some new maternity lingerie for his stores. Imagine Mitch’s surprise. And then again, imagine Harleigh’s amazement when Mitch and Jason showed up at her store and Mitch was also claiming they were engaged! Theirs became a multi-faceted relationship; Harleigh was spontaneous and independent, and Mitch was organized and in charge. Ms. Curwen showed excellent writing ability in examining this relationship, which constantly had Mitch running after Harleigh! The main characters were strong and well defined; the sub-characters were likeable and enjoyable. The couple was very involved in uninhibited sex and fell in love quickly. Their alliance was intense and worked well until they were forced to reenter the outside world. No matter what connection they run into, sparks seem to fly. Their love was so fragile and unexpected; they were unable to relate to the outside world as well as their affection for each other. Like a Hurricane by Ms. Curwen is an excellent book which I wholeheartedly recommend.
