| Lila Sutton was a schoolteacher in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. She lived in her home with her mother Beatrice during the Civil War. When the soldiers in blue came into town, Lila’s mother told her she had dreamed that one special man amongst them would change her life as well as her mother’s. This prediction was totally out of the normal of Beatrice’s attitude. However, she believed in God and decided she would see what came about as a result of the Union take-over of Gettysburg.
Captain Jack Montgomery passed the Sutton home place leading his troops. When he saw Lila and her mother standing on the porch, he winked, grinned and passed by. He didn’t know Beatrice then told Lila he was the one in her dream. After being wounded, Jack was taken to the Sutton place where a temporary hospital was set up. The one act of Jack being taken to Lila would indeed change all their lives forever. This book had several positive points as I started reading. I love historical; I love Civil War periods; and I love romance and happily ever after. That is not always possible during war times but this was certainly a great read. I quickly became engrossed in the plot and didn’t want to quit reading. The story developed at a fast pace but it definitely wasn’t a cookie-cutter war story. There were several different aspects and challenges within the book. Each made the storyline more impressive. Ms. Diane Wylie is a writer after my heart. She gave her characters heart and soul and depth. These multi-faceted people, both primary and secondary characters, worked together to create a spell-binding book which I expect will be highly successful. I also believe this book will stand the test of time and be just as great a read ten years from now as the day it was published. I am pleased to highly recommend this book to everybody.
