Lilith has been mourning her husband and best friend Conroy for over six years. Every year at Samhain she summons her dead husband's spirit to find guidance, and that has enabled her to go on for another year. This time, his spirit tells her that she must go to a man she never thought she would have to deal with, Gareth. Unable to refuse, she goes to him and discovers that there is more than meets the eye to Gareth the Sun Warlock.

Gareth has gone 19 years without a woman, and he's had enough. He's trying to summon a succubus, because that way he can have the physical without worrying about the mental aspect. He doesn't think anyonee wants him anyway, his face is scarred, and he is so powerful that most people either fear him or hate him. When Lilith shows up, he feels that the gods have betrayed him by sending him a real woman instead of the succubus he asked for. Why would a real woman want what he has become? When he looks in her eyes and doesn't see fear and loathing he's come to expect, he starts to wonder if she might be what he was looking for after all.

Told in first person by both Lilith and Gareth, Lilith Summoned is a touching story about two people who need to let go of the past and love again. Lilith had been devastated by her loss, but knows that she needs to move on and is ready to. She is unsure how to do that, and Conroy gives her the push she needs to move forward. Gareth is afraid of his own powers, and feels that no one could want him after what he has done and how he looks. I liked both characters, they had depth and feeling. One of the things I liked about the book was that they didn't instantly fall in love; it looks like it will be a growing process for both of them. Lilith Summoned is a lovely story that leaves you feeling good, and definitely worth the time to read.
