| At the age of twenty three, Elizabeth Caughley would not accept an arranged marriage with someone she did not love. She covertly took on the name of Lily Curtis and became a maid for the Viscount Westrop of Cotswold Manor, Andrew Baxter. Hoping to raise enough money for a trip to Paris where she wished to reside.
Andrew Baxter believed he had to keep a promise, he made to his dying father that of a marriage and an heir to keep on the legacy at hand. Getting ready for an arranged marriage himself, he discovers to whom he wants to live his life with. He soon realizes he's got more than he bargained for when he meets the brazen Lily. This is one novel that you'd like to sit and read in one magnetic moment of a sitting. It was a little slow to start off, though as you penetrate the typeset of each of the characters and get an exact taste of what each is like, you root for the ones that seem somewhat unlikely to be in the forefront of the novel. The novel shows an uncanny realism which focuses on the lives of the main character wonderfully. The love, the hate, the exactitude of it all has you rooting for the well devised characters. I did have some trouble with Lily, however, that is all my own doing. Lily's sense of wanting to move on, seemed to last a little too long for my taste. I kept on thinking, come on open your eyes. Andrew, a man bound by duty and honor has his work cut out for him. You've got to love Andrew for he knows what he wants. I loved the novel because of the intense feelings and actions the characters had to go through moving the novel forward. A lot of the wording really added to the realism in the novel.
