Thanks to her friend, Merinus, Rachel works as Jonas Wyatt's assistant. She fights a growing attraction to him. She knows about the mating heat but wants Jonas to want her for herself and not because nature decided they were fated to be together. Jonas knows Rachel is his true mate but also knows the danger he brings to her. All bets are off when the very thing Rachel holds most dear is threatened by an enemy from Jonas' past.

Followers of this series have been waiting on Jonas' story for forever it seems and they will not be disappointed. I really liked how the author changes up qualities we have come to expect from breed matings and gives us a fresh look at their relationships. The author explains Jonas' history in a way that furthers the breed storyline as well as creates more questions. As the Director of Breed Affairs, Jonas has to make difficult decisions to ensure the safety of all breeds. His life is devoted to his job. He's not the most popular or likable breed but his personality is vital to the success of his job. His strength and arrogance are explained in this book, giving the reader important insight into his character. The very characteristics that cause many to dislike him are the traits that Rachel relies on and comes to respect. His control and integrity show us the depth of his emotions. Rachel is a strong woman who made a big mistake.

She is smart, capable, and honest three traits that complement Jonas' decisive personality. I loved how we are shown glimpses into Jonas' emotions that breathe life into his humanity. Both fight the inevitable which creates sexual tension unlike any I've ever read. Leigh is a master at writing gripping, emotional, and sensual sex scenes. Lion's Heat is a dynamic thriller with all the elements of a great romance. Fast-paced and exciting, this book is one that will linger in your memory. Highly recommended but be warned the ending leaves us with more questions that will take a generation to get answered.
