| Crystal (Crys) Miller invited her gay friends Kai Murdoch and Bryn Murchison to her boyfriend Geoff’s office Christmas party at his insistence. Geoff and his office mates drugged Crys, tied her up, wrapped her in a burlap bag and dropped her unconscious body off the Vauxhall Bridge into the icy water of the Thames River. Geoff had called Bryn’s cell phone and told him he and Kai only had ten minutes to get there if they wanted a chance to save Crys’ life. Geoff and his office mates were PHR, the Perfect Human Race, activists who wanted all Talents dead. Geoff callously sacrificed Crys to set the trap for the Kai and Bryn, whom he believed to be mermen.
There are lots of great ménage scenes in this episode of the Dept 57 series and a tender love story as well. There is plenty of action and all our old friends are back as the heroes from Dept 57 take on the PHR in the ongoing battle to find the scientists and the labs where kidnapped Talents are taken and tortured or killed. Bryn’s house is a fantasy and a treat to experience. The characters of Kai, Bryn and Crys are very well developed and we learn a little bit more about the enigmatic Cristos and many of the other operatives of Dept 57 we’ve come to love. The love story moves along at a believable pace and everyone is very adult about the situation. Their relationships move on to another chapter. The plot is good and the story is extremely well written. The facts, myth and lore of merpeople are explored in depth and explained. Liquid Crystal is a really fun story and another exciting adventure in the ongoing saga of Dept 57.
