Scott Preston is obsessed by a twenty-year-old murder victim. Lisa Craig's killer has never been found. The original investigation was marred by a chief investigator too involved in his drinking problem and divorce to care. Now new information is being uncovered -- and new deaths are occurring.

Scott is a reporter, and his boss, Greg Mowatt, wants to crucify the police department. There is some very interesting newspaper verses the law interplay.

Scott can't get the girl out of his mind, and when he comes close to the truth, his own life is in danger. Cars being run off the road play a big role, yet I found it odd that the author never mentioned makes or models. This was an area I felt lacking in detail.

This is a fun story, even if some of the threads don't pan out. Scott's Aunt Violet runs an antique shop and claims his Celtic ancestry should give him insight, but it never does. Her wealthy boyfriend has some secrets of his own that no one manages to uncover until late in the story. Another reporter, Meg Bryan, has a crush on Scott, but he is more interested in a two-decade old corpse, so there is some sex, but no romance.

The story is physically grounded in Vancouver, British Columbia, and gives some insight into police investigations. There are some well-developed shady characters and scenes, but I was really hoping to learn more about Scott and to get some hint as to what the future holds for him.

While not a romance, this was an effective and engrossing puzzle with just the right number of red herrings and a satisfying and logical conclusion. It's a good bet for mystery fans.
