Sparrow was once a princess, but now is a simple farmer in a women's village. She loves her life, and doesn't want anything to complicate it. When she sees the slave auction starting, she tries to avoid it, but her friend has dragged her to it. Now, it is impossible to get away in the crush of people. Then she sees Lock, and is instantly attracted to him. Because of his crimes, he is being tortured until someone buys him or he passes out. With his high tolerance to pain, he will likely die before he becomes unconscious. Sparrow can't let him suffer, and buys him. Now they are both trapped in a situation that neither one can get out of without hurting the other. Neither of them had thought they would fall in love… This is a great story, with plenty of action. The characters are well written, and have a depth to them that only makes the story richer and more entertaining. Lock has a hard time believing that he should be happy, or that someone would want to help him. Sparrow needs all her understanding and compassion to get through to Lock that he is what she wants. I was engaged from the very first page, and didn't want to stop reading. I didn't feel that I had to read the rest of the series to understand what was going on. The sex scenes are awesome, hot and steamy, just like I like it. A definite keeper!
