The only reason Alexis would ever consent to return to Charles Town, West Virginia ranching country was because her father was alone and he had a debilitating stroke. This hillbilly town not only was backwoods, but the Judge who heard her case for speeding was a redneck for sure! The 100 hours community service she was fined would take place at Beckett’s Longhorn Ranch where her scorned teenaged love was the owner!

Alexis was infuriated when her father sold out in Baltimore and moved to Charles Town after winning the lottery 13 years ago; he started Cunningham Thoroughbred Horses. She took her bad attitude out on her new classmates—i.e., Buddy Beckett (now owner of the longhorn ranch) and geeky Edmund Ruckenbeak (who was now the local judge). This spring promised to be far from her normal living status!

Ms. Trent portrayed her interesting characters with vast depth and interests. Buddy (called Bubby by his little sister, Patty) not only loved to raise cattle, but taught Animal Husbandry part-time at a local college. He was raised by loving parents, along with eight other siblings, who supported them on a pig farm. He was opinionated, loving, hard-working and willing to help anyone in need. Patty, 10-years old, was born with Down’s syndrome. She was very loving, and looked forward to her trips to Wal Mart with Buddy. That is not all—she presented a myriad of personalities who were so typically country, but not anti-city! She made me feel part of the family!

I think this book was wonderful and would recommend it to anyone! It’s addictive; I promise it will be hard to put down. Great job!
