| Judith Ann Strayhorn is proud of her heritage as the only child of ranchers whose ancestors helped to settle Texas. She'll own the Circle C someday but her stubborn father and grandfather want her to concentrate on getting married and having babies, not on running the ranch she loves. Deciding she has to take matters into her own hands she decides to buy the neighboring 6-0 ranch and show them what she can do. Only one thing stands in her way. Brady Fallon has inherited the ranch from his aunt. He intends to fix it up and run it himself.
Sadie Callahan crafts a story that is rich in Texas history and the age-old story of a woman whose protective parent doesn't want her doing a man's job. Jude's complex character is sometimes a spoiled rich girl who lets the reader relate to her father's insistence that she can't run the ranch. So often we see her making decisions just because she wants to spite her father and has the money to do it. Brady Fallon wants nothing to do with another spoiled little rich girl.. His first wife and her father ruined him in the construction business and took away his son. Brady wants to be his own man. He's as much a throwback to old western values as anyone can be in the modern world. Jude has never really had to prove herself to anyone. Men want her for her money and an inroad to the Strayhorn dynasty more than anything else. Brady is able to wait to see if she'll grow up as their on again, off again romance tries to survive the obstacles in its path. This is a tale full of players and dialogue that seem to be laying the groundwork for future books in the series.
