Someone is dumping something deadly and state trooper Tara Reeves is determined to find out whom. Not her normal area of investigation, Tara refuses to be deterred by the locals and a salacious guide who heats her blood one minute and irritates her the next. Nothing prepares her for a shocking discovery. It leaves her driven to help eliminate the threat.

STORM (Strategic Technical Operations and Rescue Missions Corporation) operative Marc Layfeyette has been tasked to stop Tara Reeves from continuing her snooping around. It endangers the mission of he and his fellow STORM team members. He soon finds that's easier said than done. As they go deeper into the bayou, the initial annoyance at having to keep an eye on her changes to one of interest and desire. It's ingrained in Marc to protect women, regardless of their capabilities. Letting the woman he's growing more and more attached to look after herself is hard and leads him into some hot water.

Tara is gutsy, capable and doesn't want Marc protecting her. She can handle herself and has done so for a long time. What she wants is to work side by side as equals. This makes for a volatile combination. Smoldering tension and sparks fly growing more combustible every time they meet, leaving me anticipating ignition.

Nina Bruhns has created a novel that combines thrilling action, strong characters, excellent dialogue and edge-of-your-seat suspense. Absolutely shocking at times, I found myself holding my breath one minute and growing hot from the steam created from sexy erotic love scenes the next. I winced, I cried and I laughed, what a combination.

Continuity from Shoot to Thrill is skillfully woven into this novel. However, If Looks Could Chill clearly stands alone. I'm glad I did some research, finding the previous novel, purchased and read that first. It whetted my appetite and created a driving need. I love books that have continuing story line, especially when it is done well such as this one.

A fantastic novel with many layers, it's exhilarating, exciting and provocative. This reeled me in, keeping me held firm, refusing to relinquish its hold, long after I'd finished. Leaving me impatient to read the next book A Kiss To Kill.
