| Jim Baxter works for NASA. As the story opens, he is surprised by his wife, Joyce, kneeling naked on the floor of their home as he returns from a day at the office. Her words rock him, "Your breeder waits, m'lord." But then Jim realizes that Joyce has been reading his research notes on the information that NASA's first starship has been sending back.
The planet is Avalon and it's humanoid culture, has developed along a different path than Earth's. Avalon has a host of women kept as "breeders," for the ruling class. They are raised from birth, to please the men who purchase them. Joyce demands that Jim tell her more of Avalon and he, seeing the effect of the planet on his lovely wife, is eager to do so. Jim's story is of Lord Rydah and his breeder, Jenya. Lord Rydah had chosen Jenya at a very young age, quite unheard of since she had not the beginnings of even one curve, but he saw something in the young girl. The story, within the story, tells of the Lord's and the breeder's growing relationship. Of her pride in him and his discovery of their being more to the young women then just a body and the training to use it. The sex in, Lord of Avalon, is hot, but it is the growing feelings between the Lord Rydah and Jenya, that make the story for me, and I would say it is the same for Jim and Joyce. It satisfies, and left me with the interest to know more of this intriguing planet and its inhabitants.
