Lord Sancho Cordoba is very much in love with his new wife Isabella. On their wedding night, and evil vampire with a vendetta against Sancho’s family kidnaps and kills her. Sancho is able to prevent Vicente from stealing her soul, but it is at the expense of his own mortality. He is cursed to be a vampire also and he waits for Isabella’s soul to be reborn. Christine is sent from her job with the National Gallery to catalogue the artwork at Cordoba’s castle for an exhibition. Lord Sancho and the castle have been featured in her dreams for years.

The author has taken what should be a very dark tale and given it a bit of a fairy tale feel. Sancho is a strong character who was a victim of Vicente DeMarco’s revenge against his grandfather, making him and Isabella innocent victims. He manages not to become an evil vampire like the one who created him and he waits for he true love to be born again. Christine is that woman, yet she is definitely her own person, so Sancho has to win her over and protect her at the same time. The brooding atmosphere of the crumbling castle is very appropriate. There aren’t very many characters, so they are very well developed, and the story line is gripping. The surprise twist at the ending really makes the story.
