| Not having much of a life growing up, even dipping into picking pockets, Jess watches as her father is dragged away from the Whitby warehouse. He will be locked away to wait for the hangman while the real spy is out wandering the streets. Jess is determined to find a way to free her father. Captain Sebastian Kennett has been a sea captain for a good many years. He is captivated by Jess when he happens upon her. He wonders who left the young woman to get attacked. He is full of concern and compassion for her, wondering how this woman had such an effect on him. She is more beautiful than words can express. Jess soon hears she is on his ship when she finally comes to. Sebastian is so taken with her, he promises to make sure she doesn’t have to pick any more pockets or do any dangerous work. Jess begins to warm up to Sebastian and in no time is bewitched by his charm, but the more they are together, she is able to learn much about Sebastian, and something tells her, the man she has grown to love, just might be the man who holds her father’s destiny in his hands.
Wow, the writing in this novel is potent. Just the soothing words of Sebastian thinking of folding Jess into his arms and giving her so much pleasure are so intoxicating, they practically sprinkle all over this reader. Joanna Bourne skillfully pens each romantic moment with these lovely players, making this read enjoyable. Sebastian and Jess have a budding relationship that creates romance beyond words. Could the sexual tension get any more mesmerizing? The chemistry between the two is enough to almost cause even the reader to swoon. Ms. Bourne adds just the right amount of twists and turns to keep the reader hooked from the beginning to the end. Intrigue, passion, outstanding dialogue, fast-paced action, and remarkable main, and secondary characters, make My Lord and Spymaster a recommended read.
