| ‘Sassy’ and ‘Repairman’ met in a chat room online and each felt an instant attraction in that first 30-minute chat. Their second time together online, Repairman declared that he loved Sassy, and she responded in kind. That same day, Kathy’s anniversary, her husband agreed it was time for one of them to move out.
When they met, both Sassy (Kathy) and Repairman (Jack) were married, and both had children. Still, they were drawn back to that chat room day after day, missing each other when they were at work, with their spouses and children, or otherwise away from their computers. Sassy’s friends – online and offline – warned her not to fall for some guy on the computer. Jack’s wife had carried on as though he’d been having an online affair even before he met Sassy in that chat room. Neither was looking for love, but when does love wait for an invitation? Day after day, evening after evening, Sassy and Repairman visited online. Their offline lives became more convoluted as Kathy and Jack met in person in a state between their homes, then planned for Kathy to take her son on vacation to visit Jack at his home. Computers became less important, and people became more important as Sassy Kathy and Repairman Jack merged online and offline impressions and feelings. The story picked up speed here, with twists and tangles galore, bringing the pair to different decisions about their future, then on to their separate and very different efforts to untangle the mess. This is a book based upon a true story, and it has a good deal of charm. However, it needs a thorough editing to be easy to read. I hope that the author will try her hand at another online/offline romance because she has a good sense of what makes a story.
