| Ten years ago, Cole Jordan asked Charley to marry him. She agreed,
they made love for the first time, and then he disappeared. Charley
does not know her uncle threatened Cole's mother with eviction if he
didn't leave town. All she knows is that he broke her heart. Now a
wealthy and successful businessman who happens to own half of
Charley's business, the Red Dog Saloon, Cole is back and plans to
stay. He has never stopped loving Charley and is determined to win
her back. Charley has no idea why the man who broke her heart is back
in town, and she's suspicious of his intentions towards both the town
and her. Sadly, she is still in love with him and no one has come
close to taking his place. Cole has another problem; someone is
trying to kill him and sabotage his new business, putting Charley in
danger also.
For the Love of Charley is a story of love lost and found after ten years. Cole is a very attractive and sympathetic character, as is Charley. Charley's cousin Frannie adds a bit of humor to the story as well as being the main character's best friend. Uncle Victor is hard to place, likeable in his love for his niece, but a villain for his treatment of Cole. The mystery portion of the book has lots of twists and turns, and the real villain and motive was a true surprise. The author's vivid description of the small town setting and the Red Dog Saloon really helped bring the story to life. For the Love of Charley is a wonderful and heartwarming book.
