| Basile Gagnon has known the loss of too many lovers in his years as a vampire. He finds himself unwilling to lose another. The years of pain start to show in Basile's eyes and have him longing for the place he calls home. He wants nothing more than to hide away from the mortal world but when Emil shows up he finds himself questioning his own decision.
Emil hopes to convince his former lover to fight for a cause he, himself, fights for. He somehow finds himself growing jealous before even stepping aboard the ship. He fights the memories of the passion that had once filled the two lovers lives. Humanity is what drove Basile and Emil apart but is no longer a true obstacle because Emil has been changed into vampire. This is a story that had me captivated from the first page to the last. Emotions and history jumped of the page in this story. Emil and Basile fight their emotions through the whole story but its love that neither wants to let himself feel. Even though within the first two chapters it is obvious that it is what have been fighting for and against. Neither man seems to want to give up on their plans but when love and duty fight each other something has to give. The Civil War era somehow seems romantic and hot when written about by Mary Winter.
