| Chance is an actor who was so tired of Hollywood and that life so he bought a ranch in Idaho. His wife, however, wasn't happy there so they divorced and she went back to that life. This novella starts out with his daughter, Serena, asking him about an old actor friend. I actually thought I had started to read the wrong story… Regardless, yes, Chance knew Joel, another actor who he had met when they were starting out. He and Joel had an on-again, off-again secret love affair for ten years until he decided he was done with it all and became a rancher.
Serena tells Chance that Uncle Joel was just arrested for DUI, searches for him on FaceBook and friends him. Joel friends her too, says hello and tells her to tell Chance hi. This is a powerful story and Ms. Roman manages to touch on almost everything; show business, actors who have to pretend they are not gay, not to mention alcohol and drug addiction. Enter Joel, stage left. After a quick phone call from Chance, Joel flies to Idaho to spend some time with him. The chemistry is not only still there, but deeper feelings are too. Even though Chance has been through this all before with Joel, he offers him the chance to come back to the ranch when everything with his arrest was taken care of. The two of them are very much in love and since they are not in front of the cameras they are actually able to experience it and help each other. I was rooting for Joel, and totally rooting for Chance. The two make an incredible couple together, if they can make it through.
