| When Nashville Homicide Detective Tess O'Malley is removed from a high-profile kidnapping and murder case, she isn't happy to be handed a cold case instead. She decides the two cases are related and sets out to prove it. In fact she feels she has a lot to prove as the youngest and only female in a family of police officers. She's determined to make captain by forty, that is if this case doesn't get her fired for fraternizing with a local private investigator. Scott Holt is an initial suspect in her cold case but soon he and Tess are working together to uncover the real killer and their real attraction.
This is a mature and complex love story much like real life with ups downs and in-betweens. I loved that so much life went on around the two main characters, just because they are both caught up with their hormones and a cold case does not stop the world from revolving and this added more realism to the story. Ironically most women would love to start a relationship with a family-oriented man and although to me he's practically perfect I completely understand Tess's stance. In fact I admire her staunch belief in her work ethic and her career goals. Scott is a near perfect hero and I think I fell a little in love with him myself. He has a cocky side that is nicely balanced with his responsible nature and I just knew that Tess didn't stand a chance. The mystery and action are solid and all of the characters well-developed. My favorite character in the whole story is young Danny. I'd love to see Carrie get her own story, in fact I'd like to see all of Scott's siblings get their very own adventure. I highly recommend this well-written romantic suspense, I know it's one I will definitely reread.
