| In this holiday themed paranormal romance, Maya Banks brings on the water works and a heart wrenching reunion.
When Cael and Riyu see their father bleeding in the snow on the brink of death they are shocked and saddened. However, it is his announcement that Heather, Cael and Riyu's mate, betrayed the pack that sends intense pain through their bodies. Sharing their father's mind, they see the "truth" of his words and when Heather appears, they disparage her and send her away, knowing she is badly hurt, but uncaring. Heather is heartbroken and has no desire to continue to live at times. She loves her mates and cannot believe they would not put their trust in her. When Cael and Riyu realize their mistake, they begin the hunt to bring Heather home and show her how sorry they are, and how much they love her. But can they do it when her trust in them has been so irrevocably shattered? It is very easy to sympathize with Heather in this book. After all, the men she loves and adores have hurt her in the worst way possible. Maya Banks gives heart to Heather, and you will surely tear up a bit when you realize how very desolate she is. I found myself wanting to instantly dislike Cael and Riyu, but one must keep in mind, they were driven by grief and pain also. I felt the resolution was a powerful one, and worked for these characters and their love torn relationship. It was not easy to forgive and forget but Heather knows love is one of the most powerful emotions in the world, and she has a heart filled with love. Cael and Riyu make amends in the best way they can. They are in great pain too for the hurt they have caused Heather. Despite all the pain, there is a great sense of love in this story that makes it well worth reading.
