| Stephan Rashleigh is the leader of the Talisman Bay Shadow Walkers, a secret society of people who protect the citizens of Talisman Bay from creatures from other dimensions. He is sure his activities make it too dangerous to have a woman in his life, until he meets Mariah DeSilva that is. Mariah is a beautiful woman who has kept her personal life free of men for the last few years after a disastrous relationship with an abusive boyfriend. After Stephan rescues her from a demon, however, she rethinks her self-imposed celibacy in favor of following the advice of her best friend, Twyla – to get laid.
The attraction between Stephan and Mariah is electric and immediate. From the moment he sees her on stage at Silver Twilight, he is drawn to her. Similarly, she can’t explain her instant attraction to him but knows that she feels safe when he’s around, especially after Twyla goes missing. The heat between these two burns up the pages, but it’s the emotion behind everything that really grips the reader and makes them realize how perfect Stephan and Mariah are for each other. All of the secondary characters really enhance the overall story. Twyla, with her intense sexuality and unashamed use of men for her own pleasure, is a perfect foil for Mariah, who keeps her own sensuality tightly leashed and only allows it to come out on stage at Silver Twilight, until she hooks up with Stephan. Like their relationship, all of the Shadow Walkers play well against each other and their individual talents complement each other, especially Stephan and his brother, Marlin. Their closeness is readily apparent and their interactions illustrate just how deeply Stephan has fallen for Mariah. Each of the secondary characters are so well drawn that I look forward to reading more of the Talisman Bay series because I know I can expect a great romance wrapped up in a bunch of action with a great cast of characters that I have already fallen in love with.
