Serena is a female wrestler, capable of defending herself from practically any person, except two stocky guys with some extra-terrestrial tool. She wakes up on a ship with many other women from Earth. They all have been kidnapped in the hope that they will be able to help Volarn with its fertility problem. Serena is a fighter; she fights to return home, she fights her growing feelings for Rhamus, and she fights for her life.

Rhamus is a King with problems. His country is dying; the people cannot produce enough children to keep the population growing, so he makes a desperate decision to kidnap Earth women to help preserve his world.

Rhamus is attracted to Serena at first glance and decides to perform the Tarthra on her. The Tarthra ceremony is the method that the Volarnians use to determine if someone can be their “lifemate”. There is no divorce on Volarn; the Tarthra helps choose the one person that they can love forever. Rhamus has to deal with the constant threat of Xarath, a neighboring country’s evil king, on his people. Serena must learn to be queen and to help her fellow women adapt to live in Volarn.

Ms. Nour does a first-rate job in creating a world that is filled with contradictions, but in such a brilliant way that ultimately the world lives and breathes. Although the premise is a kidnapping, the women have the power to choose their destinies. Serena and Rhamus are dynamic characters with natural fears and faults balanced with strength and love. This book is well worth the journey to Volarn.
