| Horribly scarred while in his Peninsular War service, Gideon North is looking for a wife who won't flinch every time she looks at him. Therefore she must be of hearty stock, practical and hard working. Gideon's estate manager Charles Borden shares a past history that not only ties them together but that keeps them at odds. But both men agree that Sarah Whitley is the perfect choice for a wife. She might be strong, beautiful and intelligent but she has her own crosses to bear from a lifetime spent living in the shadows and hiding her own marks from a cruel world.
With help from Gideon and Charles, Sarah learns how to let go of the past and embrace the future and the men she loves. By letting go of her fears Sarah frees Gideon and Charles into acknowledging the feelings and attraction that has always been existed between them. Even love and desire between the three lovers can't guarantee happiness until the past can be put to rest once and for all so that the lovers can build a future together filled with forever. The very accomplished author Samantha Kane once again thrills readers with another installment to her outstanding and tempting Brothers in Arms series with Love's Fortress. Any reader who has read any of the other books in this series knows that when they open the pages they are in for a powerful read that will bring those tears and laughter, sorrow, deep sighs and finally joy! Books one through six were unbelievable and all have places within everyone's keeper shelves but Love's Fortress for sure tops the series as being a superbly written story. With a deep sensuality and enhanced by poignant felt emotions followed by deep seated drama, Ms. Kane draws the reader into the story to where they easily become absorbed falling headlong into the compelling action. Enhanced with gripping war time historical details and a realistic portrayal of the times create the ideal backdrop for this captivating romance. Gideon, Charles and Sarah's emotional turmoil throughout the story seems to pull the reader in, working to hold them captive to the unfolding action. Readers can't help but connect emotionally to these three lovers whose strength and courage draws them but it's there underlying vulnerability that can't help but touch a place deep in the reader's heart. Gideon, Charles and Sarah are intense, multi-dimensional, intriguing and flawed which actually lifts the story out of the ordinary and gives it an extraordinary appeal. The sensually passionate relationship between the lovers is filled with sexual tension, seduction and desire. The sexual passion is exquisitely written and isn't so graphically written that some readers might be put off by the M/M sex. Ms. Kane wonderfully portrays the bond between Gideon and Charles, complete with conflicts and struggles they must face while keeping the reader firmly vested in the story. Sarah's characters just seem to fall into the relationship connecting with Charles and Gideon strengthening the bond. It is truly inspiring to see Gideon, Charles and Sarah face and conquer their emotional and physical obstacles becoming stronger and wiser characters that are more open to love.
