Newly married, Phillip and Maggie Neville are having a rough time of it. Though they are in love, their sex life is abysmal. Maggie fears she can’t please Phillip, and Phillip is having a difficult time introducing Maggie to the more erotic intimate games he enjoys. Vanilla sex is not for him and Phillip longs to show Maggie the exquisite pleasure they can share when they move beyond the ordinary. Phillip needs Maggie to get used to these pleasures because he wants to introduce a third into their relationship, his best friend and fellow war survivor, Jonathan Overton.

Maggie loves Phillip but she can’t help feeling their union is incomplete. She was courted ardently by Phillip and Jonathan so when Jonathan is cut out of their life after her marriage to Phillip, Maggie feels the loss keenly. However, the wonderful news that Jonathan will be residing with them for awhile brightens her up considerably, that is, until she discovers the real reason Jonathan is back in their lives. Can Maggie, raised a proper lady in England, handle the fact that her husband longs to share their lovemaking with another man? And is she strong enough to recognize the powerful emotions of love that flow between Jonathan and Phillip?

Hot, hot and sizzling, this ménage a trois story features three characters that are challenged, seduced and powerfully affected by their emotions. Maggie has to face the fact that her marriage is not going to follow the typical English society marriage. Her shock at this fact definitely fits well with the story, but how she handles the aftereffects of this realization is when she truly comes alive and realizes that having more love can never be bad. Jonathan and Phillip are tenacious men who aren’t afraid to challenge Maggie. They are also different enough men that they stand out as characters rather than blend into each other. Phillip, a bit more domineering and possessive, and Jonathan, the more gentler of the two. Their friendship and attraction to each other is truly some of the most erotic words in this story. My one quibble is that there is a plot point towards the end that instead of appearing as a climactic shocker ends up seeming kind of trite when compared to the emotional turbulence of the previous pages.

Love Under Siege is just plain terrific. Characters that go after what they want and taking risks on love is always appealing. Add in two sexy men and a woman who is learning the ropes of intimacy and you’re in for an erotic historical treat.
