| Emily Franklin, married almost 25 years, is living the "good" life. After raising two boys, she and her husband, Robert, have settled into a busy life and, even if not doing many things together, they at least have a contented life... even to the point of Robert insisting that Emily make time for the two of them to get away for the weekend to their "special" place. Imagine how Emily feels when, after reaching their destination, Robert tells her "I want a divorce!"
Emily discovers an inner strength that she was unaware of. She sets out to find a job, and ends up getting the job of a lifetime. This keeps her busy, builds her self-esteem, and brings a measure of joy to her new life. She also becomes very close friends with her lawyer and finds a much needed confidante. After her son introduces her to his soon-to-be-fiancé's family, which includes her father, Reverend Dennis Morrison, and her twin sisters, Emily finds herself becoming involved with this family who answer a need for her to see some normalcy in a family situation and a closeness with the twins which gives her "daughters" she always wished she had. As the story unfolds, Emily and Dennis become closer and each meets a need the other has in his/her own life. Of course, by this time, the two-timing Robert is back and wants Emily to come back to him immediately. He certainly does not understand why Emily cannot see that he has changed and wants to get the family back together. He cannot believe that since he has changed, Emily cannot see that and does not want to immediately return to the "way things were!" He also cannot understand why Emily refuses to get their sons to accept him as their repentant father. For anyone who has been married for many years, this story is, I believe, essential reading! The whole story is unique in that it touches areas in which many of us live, but few address. The way the story concludes is a tribute to an understanding pair of authors who know how to involve the reader in a romance that is almost impossible to put down. I did not want to stop until I finished the book, and then I wished for a sequel.
