The romantic cruise ship "Loving Kindness" sails the stars, not the seas of Old Terra. Cruise director Gwen Thompson is tempted but determined to resist to the attentions of the new martial arts instructor, Kealton James... even when she finds him doing katas in the nude. Kealton is trying to slowly seduce her, taking every chance to be near her. Gwen, on the other hand, tries very hard to keep Kealton at a distance, because when he's close, sparks fly. She sees too much of her father in him. In fact, she believes strongly that he is one of the Alliance's special forces agents, just like the father who deserted his wife and two daughters to play warrior among the stars. She wants no part of him.

The characters are strong and determined. Gwen has too many painful memories to let a man like her father work his way into her life and yet he tempts her more than any other man she's ever known. The tempting bad boy is alive and well in the future. Yea! Kealton has his duties, on board and his Alliance assignment, but needs to bring Gwen under his sensual control before it's too late. Irving has done a good job of using the hidden agendas of both main characters to keep the romance and the suspense in high gear.

The action moves quickly and Kealton's rescue of Gwen when the ship is attacked by pirates leads them to a colony where she must play the part of his submissive to save herself and her friends. The BDSM aspects of this section of the book may offend some readers but they fit both with the context of the story and the growing relationship between the characters. The struggles of the characters to understand themselves and their lover, and grow from the knowledge, made you really care about them. And when you start a book with a man exercising in the nude, you know the sex has to be good. A perfect summer at the beach read.
