| Arranging for a fortuitous marriage for his daughter to help pay off his own debts, Lady Lucinda Jameson's father was jailed when the marriage could not take place due to Lucy's sexual indiscretions. Attempting to pay off her father's debt and get him out of jail Lucy heads to Venice and tries to sell her paintings. Venice society loves to throw extravagant parties and during these 'masquerades' almost anything is possible; after all you never know exactly who is who. Lucy finds herself engaged in an anonymous one-night affair with someone she has dubbed "Adam." "Adam" can no longer withstand his attraction to Lucy's free-spirited nature and her beautiful body, so he lets his true identity, Lord Nicolas de Lapointe, force her into a relationship. He makes a contract that will pay off her father's debt in exchange for being his mistress for two months. As much as she detests Nicholas and pines for her "Adam," Lucy feels that she must sign the contract as her father's life depends on it.
This story takes place in the year 1590 in Venice where there is political intrigue and national spies around every corner. This was a heartfelt journey that involved a very jaded man and a true free-spirited woman who was ahead of her times. Lucy and Nicholas are multi-dimensional and each battle their own hearts and minds. This was a wonderful journey back to 1590.
