| Livia apprentices to Perrin to acquire his lifetime's knowledge of the art of Lumeris-noire. Perrin is an odd fellow, shadowed in a cloak, who demands her immediate obedience. She cannot even return to say goodbye to her family. Once she acquiesces, she discovers that Perrin is marked: he has trafficked with the evil masters of Lumeris-noire, the Fiendgens. Lumeris-noire is magickal art practiced in defense of the dome of Guthdry. Perrin nearly died while empowering the dome, but recovered and has spent many years in its defense. Livia aspires to follow in his footsteps, devoting her life to defense of the domain.
Neither Livia nor Perrin expected their senses to quicken in the presence of the other, and both must work hard to conceal their desires. For years Perrin, having partaken of the Fiendgen rituals, has been cursed with the craving for Fiendgen blood. He must drink it periodically lest the craving kill him, and in addition he must attend the Fiendgen rituals cyclically. Eventually he will become Fiendgen, and no longer human. He can only break this by his death, or by a method which even he dares not consider. Yet every moment since Livia has entered his domain, the thoughts of her intrude on his solitude, and Livia's desire for Perrin also grows intensely. I've not yet read a Kate Hill story I didn't like, and Lust's Shadow has proved to be no exception. Ms. Hill has the art of capturing the reader from practically the first word, and her futuristic and fantasy world-building talents are unexcelled. This is a definite "page-turner" and re-reader. I highly recommend that you race to your nearest pc terminal and order this book for download!
