| What a mess this couple had! Sean Mackenzie and Kate Hartley were married seven years ago and divorced. After a night of socializing and drinking vodka, Kate woke up in Mack’s bed. Two months later she went to his office asking for a loan because she was pregnant. Mack had never forgiven Kate for marrying him for his money. He had plenty of it, but he had loved her and his pride was severely wounded when he realized that money was why she had chosen him.
After quite a bit of their “lack of communication,” Mack and Kate agreed to marry. He was unaware that the reason she was seeking money was because she subsidized her sister’s income repeatedly and could not support her as she wanted and still pay her own bills. Of course she could not tell Mack about Francesca’s expensive habits. He still believed that she, Kate, was the spender of the family. Mack agreed to support Kate, but he also “owned” her and felt he was “buying” his baby—if it really was his. It seems that anyone except our sensual, arguing couple could see that something was not right in their relationship. Both were still in love with each other, but something (or someone) was continually causing friction. I really liked this book and got so involved with it that I didn’t want to put it down. I felt so sorry for Kate, but at the same time, I wanted to “smack” her for being so gullible. I fell in love with Mack, but I just wanted to help him work out his problems. Ms. Kim Rees did a wonderful job of telling this story. It was certainly not boring! With so many characters, it would seem that the story would be confusing, but that definitely was not the case. She told the story so well that I (the reader) felt I was living in the situation and could not help, even though I wanted to. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes to read romance; there will definitely be no disappointment!
