Tim Green washed out of a possible job with the Michigan State Police. Stress seems to make him forget everything he knows. Becky Vasquez is his opposite, heroic in battle under fire, strong in the face of adversity. Their paths bring them both to Mackinac Island, each needing stress relief for different reasons. Before too long this unlikely pair is confronted with an evil ghost guarding a stolen treasure. No matter what the cost to those who come too near his gold he's determined to guard it for eternity.

Clint Dunshee pens an interesting tale of people in a setting where some with innate strength of character shine. Some even help bring out the best in those around them no matter how much they have to battle private demons from their past. There are those who are almost comedic in their lack of character under pressure. It's an excellent cross section of humanity in a story that's well constructed and fun to read. I haven't read this author before but I like his style. The characters and dialogue are believable and bring out our empathy as well as other emotions depending on their behavior.

This is a great bit of real history of a place I've visited in the past so enjoy even more because of the walk down memory lane. The fictionalization of what could be a part of that history is made believable. His characters come alive in a way that helps us get lost in the telling of the tale. Mr. Dunshee shines in this book and I hope to read more of his work.
