| Following the barking, T.J. O’Malley finds the body of a badly beaten woman being pulled from the lake by his dog, Crane. He is surprised when he turns her over to recognize the one person he thought never to see again. The woman he had loved all his life but had to give up to keep her safe. Now she is here and hurt he is feels it is best that she never learn that he is still alive. Mattie awakens in pain not knowing where she is or who she is. All she knows is the person taking care of her looks very familiar.
Mac’s Man by Elaine Charton is an exciting suspense filled romance. The characters are strong, each believe they are doing something for the other. Mattie has no memory but she notices things that feel familiar. She does not know how she was hurt or by who. Someone wants her dead but she hasn’t a clue who or why. There is definitely a mystery to be solved. Suspense builds as her past catches up with her. T.J. finds himself making mistakes such as calling Mattie by old pet names. He is sure he is doing the right thing even though it breaks his heart to give her up again. At times it seems almost cruel not to tell her the truth of who she is and how he knows her but he is trying to do what he thinks is best. He is very protective of Mattie and the love he feels for her is still as strong as ever. He had given up so much to keep her safe. At this point the reader wants the happy ever after ending to come true. Mattie notices things and it appears T.J. is keeping secrets from her. This is a case where one person makes decisions for another without their input. Things never turn out well in such cases. Things explode into action as the person who wants Mattie dead appears on the scene. Emotions run high as the reader fears for the characters safety and their hearts. The romance is sweet but tortured with the fact that T.J. believes Mattie would be safer without him. The descriptions in the story are quite vivid and the story comes to life for the reader. For an emotionally stirring, sweet romance filled with mystery and suspense, I recommend Mac’s Man by Elaine Charton to the readers.
