Claire is desperate. She lost her job over a year ago, and her unemployment benefits are about to run out. Not only that, but her mother is not in good health and depends on her for a home and companionship. Then, out of the blue, and offer comes that could save the whole situation. If she will spend a week with a man, and do anything and everything he says without question, she could earn $50,000 dollars. There's one catch… she has to stay the whole week of Christmas in order to get the money, and he can renege at any time. After thinking about it long and hard, she decides that it is worth the risk, even though the man in question is the owner of the companies that laid her off. Even though he is known to be cruel and heartless….

Eli is a man that has died inside. All he feels is either numb or extreme emotional pain, and he wants none of either. Christmas is the worst. The only thing he thinks will dull the pain or make him feel good is to have a woman that will do what he tells her and nothing else. The problem is, for the last five years none of them have ever worked out for more than a day or two. He ends up sending them home with nothing, still as empty and numb as he was before. But that was before he met Claire…

When I started reading this book I was turned off by the opening scene because it seemed unnecessarily cruel. I didn't like Eli at all because of the way he treated Claire, and thought that there was no way this author could make me like him. Guess what? I was wrong. I am glad I continued to read on, because it turned out to be a good book with a surprising twist to the leading man. Give this book a chance, and make sure you read on. I am sure that you will enjoy it as much as I did.
