Eli is a man that has died inside. All he feels is either numb or extreme emotional pain, and he wants none of either. Christmas is the worst. The only thing he thinks will dull the pain or make him feel good is to have a woman that will do what he tells her and nothing else. The problem is, for the last five years none of them have ever worked out for more than a day or two. He ends up sending them home with nothing, still as empty and numb as he was before. But that was before he met Claire… When I started reading this book I was turned off by the opening scene because it seemed unnecessarily cruel. I didn't like Eli at all because of the way he treated Claire, and thought that there was no way this author could make me like him. Guess what? I was wrong. I am glad I continued to read on, because it turned out to be a good book with a surprising twist to the leading man. Give this book a chance, and make sure you read on. I am sure that you will enjoy it as much as I did.
