Architect Shelby Rand was madly in love with her fiancé Nick Gualdoni but when he unexpectedly breaks up with her, she has no idea why. When Nick confronts Shelby and accuses her of selling his blueprints to another builder, causing Nick to lose out on a contract, but, worse of all, causing Nick to lose all trust in Shelby. Shelby is struck dumb by his accusations. She can't believe Nick would believe that about her that he would think she would sell him out, but unfortunately, Nick now believes the worst about her. Their engagement is over and now Nick wants the name of the person who helped her sell the prints.

The last thing Shelby wants is to spend time with Nick after the stunt he pulled, but unfortunately, he shows up wherever she goes, determined to prove that she is a sneak. He is suspicious of her on the job and makes sure that she isn't cutting any corners at the construction job. Despite this, both Nick and Shelby still yearn for each other. Alas, it seems the only danger in Shelby's life isn't just from Nick breaking her heart. There is someone after Shelby, someone who is willing to run her off the road in a supposed "car accident." Nick is determined to find out who helped Shelby steal his plans, and though he has animosity towards her, he still wants to protect her; a part of him still wants to start a family with her. Will Shelby and Nick be able to clear her name in order to have a happily-ever-after?

While Nick's apparent distrust of Shelby is a bit of a disenchanting way to start the story, it certainly made for some explosive situations between the two characters. Though they had lots of built up anger towards each other, there was still plenty of sizzling passion between them that kept me hooked on the story. Their encounters were definitely the strong point of the story and any reader will enjoy the sparking chemistry that these two share. The real culprit won't come as a surprise, but P.J. Womack definitely makes up for it by writing an edgy and intriguing ending that will leave you guessing how it will all play out. The Man in Her Life is another promising story from Ms. Womack that will ensure that this author stays on any romance reader's book radar.
