Margaret is an illegitimate child, born out of betrayal in a time where just the status of your birth could ruin you. With a childhood scarred by scorn, she takes a chance at a new life in Queen Elizabeth's – the Virgin Queen – court as her new maiden. Her life changes dramatically once she sets eye on the Queen and loses her heart to her Majesty. But Margaret must be careful, for even if the Queen of England were to notice she even existed, being involved with one of the most powerful women in history might be dangerous after all…

As a fan of Ms. Houston's works, I was astonished by this book. The story is so heartfelt, it practically comes alive before your eyes. Incredibly enough, I almost found myself searching on Google to see if this story had any basis in facts, for it was so real and so effortless to believe in. Margaret is a very charming young woman, and I really enjoyed seeing the amazing transformation she goes through, from a shy and hesitant maiden to a strong and confident woman who's not afraid to voice, and fight for, her desires. In Elizabeth, Ms. Houston paints the picture of a true queen, regal and magnificent, with the temper of a spoiled child and the heart of a lion. The plot itself, simplistic in the sense that it focuses mainly on their romance, is not very well-developed, but completely driven by these two very strong characters. I especially loved the end note at the end, explaining what was factual and what was fiction in the story, for it made me appreciate the details about Elizabeth so richly provided all the more. As Ms. Houston's first attempt at a Historical Romance, I take my hat off and say “bravo” and urge all historical romances' fans out there to read this story. I will be eagerly waiting for her next book, hoping she will brave using her amazing skills at a longer and deeper piece.
