| Emma Montrose has always been hugely attracted to Jack Sullivan and it's time to show him that she's not just a very capable secretary. She's also a woman who has desires and that she desires him. Jack is a taniwha shifter who requires women to satiate the needs of the serpent within and nothing else. Unwillingly, he is thrown together with an ecstatic Emma in an unconventional undercover assignment as a couple and lines between reality and fantasy begin to blur.
Munro again creates unusual shifters as she brings to life the mystical beast of Maori legend in this rollicking caper. Emma was a charming heroine as she tries to break free from the mold that the world put her in and become a more fulfilled woman. Her determination to get Jack to notice her put her in a few situations that made me laugh out loud. However, a few of her actions seemed out of character. But perhaps, due to the length of the story, the author needed to speed up her character development. Jack's bewilderment and the purely male uncertainty that comes from an underhandedly predatory female was very well-done and I liked seeing how he too, fought his own insecurities to become a man worthy of our feisty heroine. A nice fast paced read!
