| Callie Sue Marsh cut her hair, donned her brother's clothes and went into the war zone looking for her lost brother. He had run away to join the Army after their daddy died. When "Cal" was wounded in a battle, the doctor discovered her secret. He kept her working for him in the hospital to keep her identity unknown to others. Then his Major (who preferred little boys) decided he wanted her to be his aide de camp.
Dr. Tom Kent was overworked in the war-torn area. He was a northern soldier who fell for his prisoner-of-war helper, known as Cal. Tom tried to keep her identity unknown. There were several mishaps that made it difficult—including when Cal decided she wanted to make the area festive for the soldiers for Christmas. Ms. Lizzie Leaf has written an intricate story of Civil War. She presented a diverse rendition of the battles occurring in the South. The characters were compelling. They were perfectly intertwined. Leaf took the story through several different scenarios which all worked together to create a passionate book. There were moments of terror, some which were quite comical, but none which didn't work together to present a great storyline. The main characters were sexually charged which kept the book very interesting. The book flowed well. It had parts which held surprises, including the ending. I recommend this book to others. It was a good read.
