There is little left of the dashing Armand Harcourt after a dozen years in a French prison. Now that he is back within the bosom of his family, he must fight to communicate and relearn the rules of polite society. Enter Felicity Bennett who from the beginning elicits a response from him that excites the Comte and astounds his family. As the relationship blossoms between the two, a foe from Armand's past appears and sets events into a tailspin. Armand and Felicity find themselves together in love and in danger.

Galen writes a good tale. I didn't put this book down once I opened its pages. Felicity shows quite a bit of spunk in a time when it was not considered an asset to a woman. This is a perfect mix of romance and mystery. The author sets a quick pace that enthralls the reader from first page. Armand's journey back from the abyss of his own mind is heart wrenching. The reader can't help but feel for a man that experiences pain from the slightest touch. Felicity's fiancé gives us someone to hate and the threat from Armand's past gives the reader a few nail biting moments. You really can't help but become invested in the characters and their plot to overcome their respective pasts on the journey to a future together.
