In Mariah's Love by Louise Crawford, soul mates takes on a true meaning. From the beginning, the reader is hooked by the attraction of these two people from completely different worlds. Both are warriors, both hold commitments to their people. Both will fight to the death for what they believe in. This will be challenged, as they agree to taste the forbidden fruits of their love.

True love, unbridled passions, deceit and loyalty, are a few of the underlying themes in Mariah's Love. What happens when a queen from a maternal order, who is a shapeshifter, meets a man from a warring brutal paternal order? The earth shakes, literally.

She has obligations as a queen and cannot marry outside of her race. He has goals of overthrowing his empire to become the next leader; his people would think her a witch. Meanwhile a third warring race will sell their warring services to the highest bidder to help wipe out either race of people.

In order to be together, both lovers must experience the other's world in a very true sense. There is no room in his world for a woman of independence; in hers, neither men nor women rule over one another. They will be the first to break the rules of their people, in order to hang on to their love.

Our hero in Mariah's Love is a man of honor. He has made a promise to marry another once he becomes emperor. This he does to save Mariah's life. Although a member of Mariah's people, the women's soul has been possessed with greed and jealousy. If she cannot be queen, she will own the only man Mariah has ever loved.

Never has a man held the sign of the shift changer. Can the hero cross over into the netherworld with Mariah and be accepted by her Gods and her people? If one or both fail, they die. It's a risk they are willing to take.
