| I can promise you laughs, I can promise you tears, and I can promise that you will not be bored when you read this delightful novel! Ms. MacDonald has done an incredible job of writing a near-perfect story and she has won a place on my (and many others, I would imagine) keeper shelf!
This feel-good story about Marion Young, a whore at Dusty Rose Brothel and Joseph (Train) Spencer, who lived and worked with his best friend/half brother, T. J. Bester. T.J. had found his wife at the brothel; however, she did not prostitute herself—she just worked there. When the owner of the brothel, Sandy, and Marion went to the ranch for T.J. and Allison’s wedding, Train took one look at Marion and decided he wanted her! There are a myriad of ups and downs they encountered along the way, including the “purchase” of Marion’s livelihood and a man named Jack who worked at the ranch and took it upon himself to cause trouble. These main characters’ lives were molded together and acted much like family. The relationship between the three women was very profound. After Sandy’s problems, Allison and Marion became like sisters. The differences in Marion and Train, and the compassion Allison and T.J. showed to them, made their promised relationship even better! Marion’s determination and stubbornness caused many problems for Train, and his possessiveness was a big problem for her. Ms. MacDonald did an excellent job of intertwining their differences and likenesses into a fabulous tale which will not soon be forgotten. Train was so determined to “save” Marion that he was willing to put everything he had, including money, into getting her. And, then, of course, they made the bet! Who would have ever considered that angle? Marion’s Train shows the exceptional ability of the author to create an unbelievable plot and generate such a winner! This is a wonderful book which I thoroughly enjoyed! Kudos to Ms. MacDonald!
