| Minda Becker stepped off the stage in Paradise, Nebraska, took off her traveling coat, and stood there in her wedding dress looking for her groom. Norman Dale Haynes, who was supposed to be standing there with a bridal bouquet, was late. He did, however, appear, and they went into the church and were married. This had been planned down to the final detail through letters the two had exchanged. There were just two problems. One, the 14-year-old daughter Minda was supposed to become mother to was 14-months old and had an older brother and sister. Second, Normal Dale was buried in the cemetery next to the church.
The man she married was Brixton Haynes, brother of the deceased, who did not intend to stay with her. He married Minda so that his nieces and nephew would have a mother. He was a cattleman and had come to help his brother get things ready for his mail order bride; Brix had a job waiting for him. He felt she was just looking for a man with a big house and a lot of money—which his brother had led her to believe was true. Ms. Tanya Hanson has written a book about the things I love reading the most—historical, western, mail order bride—with great characters and fast-paced action and conflict which makes the good times even better. These two strong main characters had such diverse backgrounds it seemed insurmountable that anything would bring them together unless you believe in chemistry. Hanson has a wonderful way of presenting her romance in a sensual way without it dominating the storyline. The supporting characters were charming and believable. The actions produced were intense and attention-getting. The story had a great flow and was hard to put down. I enjoyed the side stories as well as the plot and the manner in which she developed her couple. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys historical romance. I expect anyone to enjoy this book and quickly become addicted to this author.
