Dana Cummings is a horror novelist who is suffering from a bad case of writer's block. Heading up to Macon, Wyoming to visit her Aunt Lucille and helping her figure out what to do about some mysterious noises from the basement seems like a good way to get over it. Meeting the sexy lawman Brennan Marshall was not on her to-do list, especially not when he accuses her of being a burglar when they first meet. Marshall is none too happy with his attraction to Dana, but he'll do whatever it takes to keep her safe from whoever wants to hurt her.

A tornado and a misunderstanding open the book and bring Dana and Marshall together. Their initial encounter not only shows exactly what kind of people they are but also their intense attraction to each other. Dana is sassy and sarcastic, often saying whatever comes to mind before realizing her thoughts have left her mouth. Marshall, on the other hand, is a tough no-nonsense cop whose intimidating physical presence hides the tenderness of the man within. These two strike sparks off of one another from the very beginning, and the sex between them burns up the pages when they finally give in to their attraction.

The story flows nicely for the most part and has some really good characters. Any lag in the pace is really a welcome breather and only heightens the suspense when the action picks up again. While the mystery surrounding the haunted bed helps to lighten the mood of the book in places, it seems out of place with the very real danger Dana faces. The secondary characters are well written and help bring the small town to life on the page. They also provide a lot of suspects for the person out to get Dana.

Overall, this is an enjoyable story with a very satisfying ending.
