| Jenna’s father was murdered by a thug claiming to be the Marsh Hawk, a notorious highwayman. When the authorities gave her no satisfaction, Jenna had no choice but to dress as a man and pursue the villain herself. She never intended to shoot him, but things got out of hand and Jenna had no choice. She was terrified of scandal should she ever be revealed as a murderess, so she agreed to marry Viscount Rupert Marner. No one would dare accuse a viscount’s wife of any crime. Rupert was insurance, nothing more until Jenna saw Simon Rutherford, Earl of Kevernwood. Rupert then became a poor substitute; pale by comparison, an unwanted, unattractive nuisance. When Rupert challenged Simon to a duel, Jenna couldn’t believe her bad fortune. If the man she loves isn’t killed in the duel, he’s sure to be hung for dueling!
The Marsh Hawk is a classic romance of epic proportions. Our hero is an old fashioned alpha male who tries keeping the little woman in the dark, causing mistrust and confusion that almost destroyed the very thing he was trying to protect. Our heroine is the strong female who won’t sit home and embroider while her father’s murder goes un-avenged. Of course there is the classic non-communication causing painful misconceptions and set Jenna and Simon working at odds with each other. Will Jenna get them all killed trying to save the man she loves and hates? I truly enjoyed reading this book; when I wasn’t crying I wore a big smile on my face. The plot has many new twists on the old theme that keep the story fresh and with enough sharp turns to keep me guessing right up to the end.
