| Colonel Martini “Marti” Harmon has had a contract with M.A.N.-kind, Inc. for a M.A.N. (mechanistic, anatomically correct nurturer) for two years. She has been away on a mission to protect the universe from invading aliens for a few years and now she's back to collect and scratch a long neglected itch. When she is told that her M.A.N. is not ready, she goes ballistic. To make matters worse, she's wasted 20 days of her 30 day shore leave getting the run-around from M.A.N.-kind, Inc., and they can't refund her money. Not content with their excuses, Marti is determined to leave with her custom-ordered M.A.N. Or a suitable replacement.
Denzel Wattana is co-owner of M.A.N.-kind, Inc. Denzel also happens to be a dead-ringer for Marti's custom-order M.A.N., at least in appearance. Denzel decides to play along and pretends to be a M.A.N.--the M.A.N. for Marti. His assignment is to be her M.A.N. for 10 days and return to his normal life, what he didn't count on was falling in love. Marti Gets Her M.A.N is a delightful story and one I could not stop reading. The circumstances of the meeting between Marti and Denzel are hilarious. I found Marti to be a strong, take-charge, take no prisoners woman and I admired her. I also found myself very sympathetic to her plight. I found myself drawn to Denzel because he was self-sacrificing, although, I don't think he got a bad deal either. I was touched by these two characters and their interactions with each other. Each of their sexual encounters was explicit and erotic and left me hot and bothered. The ending of the story was a bit of a shock to me, as I am sure the author intended, but it left me feeling a real sense of loss. While, I didn't like the abrupt nature of the ending, it was very effective and now I'm anxiously awaiting a continuation of this series. Readers who enjoy strong, likable characters who meet through unusual circumstances will enjoy Women of Steel 1: Marti Gets Her M.A.N.
